Emsworth Shopping Survey

Thumbs up for Emsworth Shops

Emsworth residents have given the town’s shops a strong vote of confidence. A unique shopping survey, organised by Emsworth Business Association, says that the town’s traders provide a friendly, convenient service and that most people can find a car parking space in less than 10 minutes. The survey was designed and organised by EBA members, Ray Cobbett and Richard Jannaway .

Security, First Aid and Health and Safety

Security and Personal Protection Solutions provide training and consultancy solutions to enable you to manage your core business. Legislation is continually changing, for instance the Health and Safety Executive are changing the First Aid in the Workplace courses etc from the 01 Oct 2009. You dont have to worry about the implications because we can assist and remove the worry. Recently we have worked wth small (less the 5 employees) business in the area of Health and Safety. Now, with 4employees or less you have no legal obligation to have a Health and Safety Policy however by having a Health and Safety Statement you greatly increase the number and quality of contracts you can acquire. Local Authority and  Healthcare Services are good examples of areas that are likely to ask for a Health and Safety Policy or Statement. We can help.

In time of recession security will always be an issue. We can help. We have been and are working on goverment projects and have been accepted as a preferred training provider for Soutwark Borough Council in London. One of our first tasks is to develop a workable Personal Safety package which Community Wardens can use when deployed on London Buses. We are also able to offer conventional security training and consultancy services.

Try us you wont be dissappointed.

Edward Jones opens in Emsworth

NEW BUSINESS TO OPEN IN EMSWORTH

Edward Jones Logo

Financial services company, Edward Jones is due to open a new branch in Queen Street, Emsworth to be run by stockbroker and financial adviser, Richard Taylor – a patron member of the Chamber of Commerce.

Said Richard, who lives in Emsworth with wife Sarah and two children; “I have been working in the community for some time and am looking forward to welcoming people to my new office.”

Edward Jones advisers are both stockbrokers and financial advisers making them unique in the UK’s financial services industry, meaning they can offer clients a wider range of investment options. The company only serves one client – the serious long term, individual investor.

Customer service is key to the Edward Jones business model and is one reason why their offices have just two people in them; the adviser and his, or her, full time assistant. This means when clients call they will only speak to one of two people who will know them personally and what their financial goals are.

“It was this dedication to customer service, and a firm belief in doing business with customers on a face-to-face basis, that attracted me to Edward Jones,” said Richard.

“Many financial services companies rely heavily on call centres which is not an ideal way of doing business. In my experience the best way to help people with their financial questions is to sit down with them and talk through what they want to achieve and then help them come up with relevant solutions.”

Edward Jones offices are conveniently located close to where clients live and work allowing easy access, while financial advisers are encouraged to play an active part in their local community.

The success of Edward Jones is due in part to the investment philosophy it follows which it believes has stood the test of time. This can be summed up as investing in quality investments , diversification and holding these investments for the long term.

“Our aim is to make a client’s money work as hard for them as they did to get it in the first place,” said Richard. “We don’t think we can do that by putting their money into risky investments.

“The ‘buy and hold’ philosophy should not be seen as ‘buy and forget’ as we regularly meet with clients to help make sure their investments are still relevant and meet their stated objectives.”

Despite the economic downturn the company still continues to grow, “We are continually looking to hire outstanding candidates of all ages and backgrounds who are dedicated to customer service and serving the needs of individual investors”,  said Richard.

Richard can be contacted on 01243 378210 or richard.taylor@edwardjones.com

EMSWORTH’s FIRST CHRISTMAS MARKET.

SUNDAY 14 DECEMBER 2008.

It is a pleasure to report to EBA members the success of our first Sunday Market held last Sunday. More than 50 stallholders were present with almost 20 from the town and surrounds. Attendance was good and stallholders reported steady sales and all felt the occasion was a good business opportunity.

In addition a number of shops in the town opened for the first time on a Sunday which gave an additional element to the atmosphere. Many residents and visitors said it was a pleasure to be able to shop locally but buy goods not usually available in the town.

In setting up this event we worked with the directors of the Emsworth Food Festival and are grateful for their support and expertise. Many people were delighted with the entertainment as it reminded them of the heady days of the Food Festival.

In addition we managed the event without having to implement any road closures in the central area and this worked well for residents and indeed visitors too.

Sarah’s Grim Challenge

EBA Member Sarah Adams of Emsworth Car and Cycle faced a grim challenge which had a cheerful outcome For the Wessex Heartbeat Charity

When Emsworth businesswoman Sarah Adams registered for her first ever running race it was to be a real baptism of fire.

She didn’t enrol for a gentle 5k fun run or even a 10k jog on the flat.  Instead she threw herself into the deep end – quite literally! – with a gruelling 8mile off-road challenge which saw her wading waist-high across water-filled ravines and crawling under camouflage nets.

Sarah Adams (left)  and Pauline Nelson (right)

Sarah (42), who runs Emsworth Car & Cycle Ltd, and Chain Reaction (Bognor) Ltd. and her friend Pauline Nelson, of Rowlands Castle, completed the Grim Challenge on Sunday December 7 in aid of Wessex Heartbeat, the regional cardiac charity.

They completed the course at the Army’s vehicle testing tracks in Aldershot, in 1hour  52 minutes and 54 seconds, and hope to have raised about £250 for the charity which supports the work of the Wessex Cardiac Centre, one of the UK’s leading heart treatment centres.

“The description of the event really didn’t do it justice – although it is very aptly named,” said Sarah, who lives at Scant Road West, Hambrook, with her husband Roger and their three sons.

“And it was so cold, that they drove a Landrover around the course to break the ice!  In fact the water bottles halfway round had lots of ice in them!

Sarah added: ” At about the five mile stage the marshal warned us that it would get a little muddy. We were knee-deep in mud that was the texture of cake mixture! If you stood still that would have been it.  In fact the ambulance sank and had to be pulled out!

Before setting off on the Grim Challenge, Sarah had trained by running at Kingley Vale nature reserve near Chichester; using a treadmill and cycling between 20-30 miles a week.

Added Sarah, “All in all it was a wonderful race, I only fell twice on the ice, and have the bruises and cuts to prove it.

“We were aiming for two hours and managed to get under that. We came 1833 out of 1900 – not bad for a first ever run.”
