Emsworth

The friendly shopping area radiates out from The Square and up to the railway station. Shopping in Emsworth
still conjures up a taste of old rural England, with a wide variety of specialist shops, ranging from fine antiques and interior design, to independent butchers, bakers and chandlers. - and you can of course buy locally caught fresh fish.

enjoys the highest shopper approval rating of all
the Borough's centres.

2006, Emsworth came 6th in the list
of independent and distinctive towns in the UK.
Pubs and Restaurants
Emsworth's many
public houses are either in, or within easy reach of
The Square. The town has nine pubs, many several
back to the early 18th Century. The town's six
restaurants offering a wide variety of business to
suit all tastes and pockets. Additionally, five cafés
provide a range of inexpensive meals and beverages.
Industry
For such a small town (population approximately
9,500) Emsworth has a wide range of industries.
Whilst the largest source of employment is in the
service sector, notably leisure and tourism,
manufacturing is strongly represented ranging from
boat building to furniture making and including an
aluminium anodising company with the longest
anodising tank in the UK.
The Harbour
The harbour is a good reason for visiting Emsworth
throughout the year, but especially in spring and
summer when the sheltered, almost landlocked,
Chichester Harbour provides an ideal summer base for
sailors and windsurfers of all levels. The views
from the foreshore to the Downs and to Hayling
Island and Thorney Island are a superb backdrop to
the activity on the water.
Conservation

A video taken on a couple of bright
early spring mornings (March 2012) of some of the
Birdlife (Great Tit, Blue Tit, Robin, Mallard, Wren,
Water Rail, Treecreeper and Nuthatch) around the small
local nature reserve of Brook Meadow on the periphery of
the town centre Emsworth.
