St George's Day Parade

On a rather gloomy and very wet morning Emsworth awaited the St George's Day Parade by 47 Regt, RA based on near by Thorney Island.

The George's Regis Jazz Band entertained the crowds who waited patiently with patriotic tunes and “Singing in the Rain” all entirely appropriate for the occasion!

47 Regt marched through the village followed enthusiastically by the children of Thorney Island Primary School to parade in the square.  The mayor of Havant gave a brief introduction to the proceedings thanking the Business Association for organising the event and the veterans for turning out and paid tribute to the regiment on parade some of whom are currently serving in Afghanistan. Colonel Mathew Crisp, CO of 47 Regt. spoke of the importance of his regiments links with the local community in Emsworth and of the valuable role that his men and women were playing in Afghanistan. With the speeches over the veterans were presented with the “Emsworth Rose” and the serving men and women marched smartly off parade

Once again Emsworth was proud to demonstrate its link to the armed forces. Dave Ewan an Association member, said, "'I've just been to the Emsworth Rose parade! Great turnout despite the weather. Old vets stood their ground in adverse weather conditions .Hats off ' to you all!

Local Butcher, Richard Tregust, and Association Member
in The News

Emsworth butcher Richard Treagust says your local expert is more likely to serve you a good quality product, so there’s every reason to shop at a proper butcher’s shop before making your bacon butty.

‘You can have it cut to a certain thickness and have smoked, unsmoked, streaky. You can buy bacon just the way you like it and you can also find out where it has come from,’ says Richard.

Trading Standards Warn Businesses To Beware Of New Scam

Hampshire County Council Trading Standards officers are warning businessesin Hampshire to be on their guard against a new scam targeting companies across the county.

The scheme involves a fraudulent company approaching businesses, seeking a fee to be included in a new business directory. However, once the customer has signed up to the scheme they realise that the directory is a sham.

Businesses are invoiced asking for payment for joining the directory and the scammers get lucky when companies pay these invoices without realising. Often, people are fooled as the fraudsters set up a limited company that sounds authentic, although it is common that they actually operate from a ‘virtual’ rented mailbox or office.

The sham has been reported nationwide but Hampshire County Council Trading Standards have received a number of complaints about a company called Slom Solution Ltd.

Leader of Hampshire County Council, Councillor Ken Thornber, said:

“This scam is occurring all over the country and becoming more common in Hampshire. It is important that everyone is sceptical about any companies contacting them that they are not familiar with. Businesses need to report any suspicious calls or letters to Trading Standards.

“Thankfully none of the reported complaints involve any companies that have paid the fee, however it may be that many have, and are just not aware they have been scammed. These fraudsters rely on firms not having sufficient checking processes in place. Our Trading Standards officers advise companies to vigilantly check all invoices, especially those from an unknown source.”

You can contact Hampshire County Council Trading Standards via Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06 or visit the Consumer Direct website www.consumerdirect.gov.uk
