Fat Olives was originally a Fisherman’s Cottage and dates back to the 17th Century when smugglers used the old passageways through the cellar and village…
After many years of both working within the hotel industry and with Lawrence’s earlier career spending time in kitchens in France and Switzerland. Lawrence and Julia Murphy established Fat Olives in January 2000.
Our first year of opening gave rise to Fat Olives becoming runners up to ‘The News Restaurant of the year awards’ and again in 2005 and 2008. We were also winners of the ‘Charity Best Business’ award in 2006 for monies raised for local charities. These awards are gratefully received as they are awarded through votes from the local readers and customers via the Portsmouth News.
In November 2013 Fat Olives was listed within the Sunday Times ‘The Incredible Edibles 2013’ a guide to Britains top restaurants in association with Harden’s. Fat Olives appeared in the ‘Top 130 Cheap Eats’ section and the hugely prestigious ‘Incredible Edibles Top 200’ a fantastic achievement for our team and our dedicated suppliers.
